How can I protect my privacy?

 

ekit makes it easier for you to share your travel experiences and for your family and friends to keep in touch while you travel. We understand you may not want everyone in the world to see the information you share in your Travel Journal. We believe you should have control over how you share your information and who can see it.

 

That is why we give you control of your information. You can customize your privacy settings from the 'Privacy' page at anytime. From here, you have total control over the location information collected and who can view the content of your Travel Journal.

 

You can mark the content of your Travel Journal as 'public' (visible to everyone who reads your journal), 'family and friends' only (visible only to people who have your visitor password) or 'private' (visible only to you).

 

What information do you collect about me?

 

When you purchase a ekit SIM card, you provide us with certain personal information such as your name, your email address, your telephone number, your address and your identification question and answer. We collect this information so that we can ship the product to you and to provide you with service.

 

When you visit the Travel Journal, you provide us with three types of information: personal information you knowingly chose to disclose that is collected by us, Web Site use information collected by us as you interact with our Web Site and cell phone use that is collected by us as you use the phone service.

 

When you use the Travel Journal, you post journal entries, upload photos, send messages, update your location etc. We collect this information so that we can provide you with the service.

 

When you send a text message or make a call, you automatically provide information about your location if you have enabled this functionality. We collect this information so that we can provide you with the service.

 

Why do you collect my location information?

 

Your location information is used by ekit primarily to be presented back to you and edited by you when you access your Travel Journal and to be presented to others permitted to view that information by your privacy settings.

 

Your location information is specifically used to automatically update your Travel Journal in a few ways:

  • Add a location marker to your map
  • Add an entry and stock image to your journal

 

How do you collect my location information?

 

Your location information is collected in a few ways:

  • Automatically when you make a call or send a text message
  • Manually when you send ekit your location in a text message: "L(city)"
  • Manually when you add an entry in to your Travel Journal
  • Manually when someone clicks the 'Check current location' button on the 'Contact me' page

 

How detailed is my location information?

 

By default, your location information is collected automatically to the level of country in most cases. Where greater detail is available, your location will be matched to the level of the city or the suburb you are in. The level of detail will improve over time as our database improves.

 

How frequently is my location information collected?

 

By default, your location information is collected on a daily basis.

 

You can update your location manually in a couple of ways:

  • By sending a text message containing your location detail "L(city)"
  • By entering your location in your online Travel Journal

 

Family and friends can also click the 'Check current location' button on the 'Contact me' page if you have permitted them to do so through your privacy settings.

 

How do I control who can see my location information?

 

ekit provides you with privacy settings that restrict other people from accessing your information. 

By default, your location information is limited to a country level of detail and accessible only to you and your family and friends. Note that your family and friends can only access your Travel Journal if you have provided them with the 'visitor' password.

 

You can customize your privacy settings on the 'Privacy' page when you sign-in to the Travel Journal. You can mark your location information as 'public' (visible to everyone who reads your journal), as 'family and friends' only (visible only to people who have your visitor password) or as 'private' (visible only to you).

 

You can adjust the level of location detail that is displayed in the 'public' view, 'family and friend' view and 'private' view. For example, you may wish to show a country level of detail on your public journal and the highest level of detail available for your family and friends.

 

I don't want my location information collected

 

You can disable the collection of your location on the 'Privacy' page when you sign-in to the Web Site.

 

If you disable the collection of your location information, your Travel Journal and map of your trip will not be updated automatically. You will still be able to update your location manually.

 

How do I disable my Travel Journal?

 

If you are worried about your location information being collected or you are worried about who can see where you have been, remember that you have complete control over this. You can adjust your privacy settings to disable tracking and you can mark the content of your Travel Journal as 'private' (only available to you). If you still want to disable your Travel Journal, please contact 24/7 Customer Service.

 

I want to buy/have bought an ekit SIM card but I don't want the Travel Journal

 

By default, the Travel Journal is disabled. However you can enable it at any time on the 'Account details' page when you sign-in to ythe Travel Journal using your mobile phone number and PIN. Or you can contact 24/7 Customer Service to enable it for you. you will also be given the option to enable it when you purchase a compatible ekit SIM card service.

 

Does ekit distribute my location and user information?

 

ekit respects your privacy. We do not distribute your information to marketers or spammers. You can read more about this in our Privacy Policy.
