Activating your account

As soon as you receive your package, carefully read the enclosed Welcome Letter and User Guide.

There are 3 ways to activate your USA service: online, over the phone and by visiting a AT&T store in the USA. You can activate your service before you travel to the USA, please note that the initial $10 credit that comes with your USA service expires 30 days after activation.

Before you activate your USA service be prepared to give out the following information:

  • Your AT&T SmartChip number or ICCID (starts with 89).
  • Full address (including ZIP code) where you will spend most of the time in the USA (You can use your hotel address or a host family address if you have one).
  • The IMEI number of your mobile phone (Your IMEI number is located behind the battery).
  • The Activation PIN number that came with your starter pack.
  • The Rate Plan you wish to have (see rate plans above).

Online (recommended)

We recommend this option to activate your USA service.

  1. Go to the AT&T website
  2. Select 'Pay As You Go' and click 'Next'.
  3. Enter your SmartChip Number.
  4. Enter the service ZIP code (This is the ZIP code where you will use your phone the most).
  5. Enter your phone's IMEI number.
  6. Enter the Activation PIN number that came with your starter pack.
  7. Choose the Rate Plan you wish to have (see rate plans above).
  8. Enter your personal details (including full USA address).
  9. Submit activation and wait a few seconds.
  10. Once the activation is successful, you will be given your new USA phone number. It is important that you take note of your new phone number. We recommend you print this page for your records. If you have purchased additional credit, don’t close this window, click on Yes and enter the top up code printed in your welcome letter.
  11. Finally, contact ekit Customer Service to register your new USA phone number. Please have your order number ready.

If you experience any difficulties activating your USA service online, please contact AT&T Customer Service on 1-877-426-0525 and say loud and clear "Customer Care" as soon as the call is answered. The Customer Care representative may ask you for your SmartChip Number, so please have it handy. Please note that International call charges apply if you call AT&T’s Customer Service outside the USA.

Over the phone

Only activate your USA service over the phone upon arrival to the USA, you can do it before you leave your home country however International call charges apply.

  1. From a payphone or landline, call the AT&T activation line 1-877-426-0525 (toll-free).
  2. Follow the easy step by step instructions.
  3. Make sure you take note of your new USA phone number.
  4. Finally, contact ekit Customer Service to register your new USA phone number. Please have your order number ready.

AT&T Store

You can activate your USA service upon arrival to the USA by visiting a AT&T store. Remember to register your USA phone number with ekit.

Making calls

Within the US: Make calls within the US from as low as 10c per minute

Every time you make or receive a call you may receive an SMS with an update of your mobile account balance.

International calls: To save on international calls, use and recharge your ekit Global Phonecard to make calls from a mobile phone, landline or payphone in over 151 countries to anywhere in the world.

Your complimentary ekit Global Phonecard account number is located on your ekit user guide and it comes with $5 free to get you started.

To make an international call:

  1. Dial 1-213-337-5555 from your mobile or 1-800-706-1333 from payphones, hotels or landlines.
  2. Enter your phonecard account number, then press #.
  3. Enter your PIN, then press #.
  4. Press 2 to make an international call and follow the voice prompts.

* When you make an international call from your mobile, there will be a charge on your mobile account (from 10c per minute depending on the plan you are on) to call 1-213-337-5555.

Recharging your account

You can recharge by purchasing $25 Pay As You Go prepaid cards (top up codes).

There are four ways to recharge:

1. Recharge online anytime, anywhere*

* Your US phone number must be registered with ekit. Contact Customer service to register your phone number.

2. You can top up your US Mobile at any time using Pay As You Go prepaid cards.

  • Purchase these from ekit when you order your US Mobile service and we will send them directly to you.

3. Call ekit in the US toll free on 1-888-513-8804 from a landline or payphone while you travel.

  • You will be allocated top up codes by the Customer Service Representative.

4. Buy Pay As You Go prepaid top up cards from AT&T resellers (eg 7-11, Western Union).

To recharge your account with your top up codes:

  1. Dial 611 (a free call from your mobile phone)
    * If you are in CA, NV, WA, ID or New York City dial #777
  2. Press 1 to Add money to your account
  3. Press 1 to use a Pay As You Go code
  4. Enter your prepaid top up code when prompted, followed by #.
